Missouri win ends Huskers’ Big 12 tournament hopes

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Brandon Pierce hit Ryan Ampleman with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, and Missouri knocked Nebraska out of contention for the Big 12 tournament with a 10-5 come-from-behind victory on Friday.

Pierce came on after the Tigers (24-28, 11-13 Big 12) loaded the bases against Nebraska closer Casey Hauptman (6-3). Jonah Schmidt scored after Pierce beaned Ampleman with a 1-0 pitch, the first of 5 runs in the inning on four hits and two errors.

Nebraska (28-25, 7-17) had led 4-2 in the top of the eighth, but Missouri rallied for three runs with two outs to go up 5-4. Bryan Peters’ bases-loaded single in the bottom half tied it for Nebraska before Missouri’s ninth-inning uprising.

Phil McCormick (7-2) earned the win in relief, allowing one run in two innings. Hauptman was tagged for five runs on five hits in a third of an inning.
