The Colorado Rockies giveth, and then Seth Smith taketh away. After coughing up a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, Smith’s solo home run leading off the ninth was the game-winner as the Rockies edged the Cleveland Indians 4-3 in Cleveland last night. It was Smith’s second homer of the game. The right-fielder hammered a two-run blast in the sixth inning to extend the Rockies lead at the time to 3-0. Jhoulys Chacin hurled six and two thirds innings of one-run, one-hit ball, but had to settle for a no-decision after the Indians scored twice off two Rockies relievers in the eighth. After Smith’s homer regained the lead, Huston Street put the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the ninth before finishing his 22nd save. The Rockies, back over the .500 mark, finish their series with the Indians tonight. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action with pregame coverage at 5:30 and the first pitch at 6:05.
