(North Platte, NE)- A man and a woman were killed Friday, June 24, 2011, when their pickup collided with a semi trailer truck on Interstate 80 near North Platte.
The crash occurred just after 7:00 a.m., three miles west of the North Platte Interchange when the female driver of an eastbound 1997 Toyota pickup overcorrected after the vehicle entered the median. The pickup then rolled several times through the median and into the westbound lanes where it was struck by a semi trailer truck. The semi and pickup came to rest in the north ditch.
The female driver and a male passenger in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Their names are being withheld pending notification of family.
The driver of the semi truck, Nikola Nenadic (M), 30, Chicago, IL and a co-driver in the semi Daniejel Avramovic (M), Elmwood Park, IL were transported to Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte where they were treated and released. The semi was hauling bricks.
Seat belts were in use. The crash which remains under investigation closed westbound I-80 from North Platte to Sutherland for a little more than two hours.
