There was no drama in Omaha last night – simply a dominant performance from the now repeat national champions. South Carolina defeated Florida 5-2 last night to sweep the College World Series and take home the first ever title contested at the new TD Ameritrade Park. Gamecocks ace Michael Roth pitched seven and two thirds innings on just three days rest, allowing two runs on five hits to earn his second win of the series. The Gamecocks opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning. After Florida closed to within 4-2 in the top of the eighth inning, South Carolina’s Scott Wingo singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth to provide extra insurance. Wingo was named the Series’ Most Outstanding Player for his heroics throughout the tournament, batting .333 and driving in four runs while making several stellar defensive plays.
