A private funeral for Amy Winehouse will take place today, her reps have confirmed.
But it looks like we’ll have to wait a while longer to find out the exact cause of Winehouse’s death. An autopsy “did not establish a formal cause of death,” according to London Metropolitan Police, who will now “await the results of further toxicology tests.” These usually take two to four weeks.
A coroner’s office spokesperson told AP that Winehouse’s death “was investigated by police and determined non-suspicious.” An inquest into the cause of her death was opened by the coroner’s office yesterday and will resume on October 26th.
Meanwhile, fans of the late singer continued to hold vigil outside of her London home yesterday, with Amy’s father Mitch taking the time to tell those gathered that their mere presence is helping the family deal with their grief. –Dave Schulps
