Bo Pelini is no stranger to social media spreading false rumors about his program. Last night, the Huskers head football coach was compelled to issue a statement after Peter Gammons of the MLB Network posted on Twitter that Pelini had quote ‘gone off on and threatened’ freshman quarterback Bubba Starling. Starling has six days to decide whether to sign with the Kansas City Royals, who drafted him fifth overall in this year’s MLB Entry Draft, or pursue his football career with the Huskers. In the statement, Pelini denied any rift with and Starling and his family, saying that they are quote ‘all on the same page’ with regards to Starling’s status at Nebraska. Starling is currently in Lincoln but not on the 105-man camp roster, so he is not allowed to practice with the Huskers, who went through their third day of practice yesterday. The team worked out in helmets but no pads for two and a half hours outdoors. After practice, new offensive coordinator Tim Beck spoke to the media. Beck, who is in his fourth season on the Husker coaching staff, has liked what he has seen from his troops thus far. Beck spoke about the improvement and overall depth of the offensive line, and the need to limit turnovers, as his other points of emphasis. The Huskers will return to the practice field again today.
