Air Force discharging sergeant who doubts Obama

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – The Air Force is discharging a Nebraska man who refused to report to duty in Germany earlier this month because he doubts President Barack Obama’s citizenship.
Staff Sgt. Daryn Moran became a hero of the so-called birther movement by sharing his views on websites of groups that believe Obama is not eligible to serve as president. However, other things contributed to the 41-year-old Moran’s discharge, including comments he made about Obama’s decision to allow gays to serve openly in the military. Moran says he’s receiving an honorable discharge, but the Air Force on Wednesday
would confirm only that he’s being discharged. Obama released a copy of his detailed birth certificate from Hawaii in April. But many birthers contend the document must be a fake.

Funeral set for Nebraska soldier in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Funeral services are scheduled for a Nebraska Army National Guard soldier who died aboard a downed helicopter in Afghanistan.
Thirty-year-old Sgt. Patrick Hamburger was among 30 Americans and eight Afghans who died Aug. 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade fired by a Taliban insurgent downed their Chinook helicopter enroute to a combat mission. Wyuka Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lincoln says Hamburger’s funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Christ’s Place Church in Lincoln. Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery. Hamburger was a flight engineer with the National Guard’s Company B, 2nd Battalion, 135th General Support Aviation unit based in Grand Island. He grew up in Lincoln and had been a member of the National Guard since 1998. He was in Afghanistan less than two weeks before his death.

It was written by John Wetton and Geoff Downes. “Heat of the Moment” is featured at the beginning of another Asia song called “Don’t Call Me” as a dialing number from a telephone.

Nebraska’s 2011 ACT average matches past 4 years

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Nebraska’s 2011 high school graduates have scored a point higher than the national average on the ACT college entrance exam. According to a report released Wednesday, Nebraska’s average score was 22.1, compared with 21.1 nationally. By comparison, Iowa’s average composite score was 22.3 out of a possible 36. Minnesota was ranked No. 1 in the nation, with an average of 22.9. The report says 76 percent of Nebraska’s 2011 graduates took the test. Nebraska has averaged 22.1 since 2007.

Bridgeport man to stand trial on enticement charge

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) – A western Nebraska man accused of sending sexually explicit texts and videos to a 14-year-old girl will face trial in Scotts Bluff County District Court. KNEB radio says 39-year-old James Jay, of Bridgeport, waived his preliminary hearing in county court on Tuesday, and will face arraignment in district court on Friday. Jay is charged with child enticement by electronic communication device and enticement by electronic communication device. According to court documents, the girl told her mother about the communications. An investigator with the Nebraska State Patrol used the girl’s cellphone and posed as the teen. Jay was arrested in late July. He remains in jail on $200,000 bond.

A chain of waxing boutiques in London has found that guys are visiting to get all-body wax treatments. That’s right –head-to-toe hairlessness.

For $430, guys are having the hair ripped out of their eyebrows, nose, ears, back, chest, stomach, legs, arms, underarm and of course a Brazilian or Hollywood wax.

If you’re interested, keep in mind that you’ll only stay hairless for six weeks, at which time you’ll have to do it all again — and fork over another $430.

Ouch.

Hershey woman’s trial set in child sex assaults

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – A 39-year-old Hershey woman faces trial in November on allegations that she did nothing to stop her husband from sexually assaulting children.
Deanna Fischer has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of
intentional child abuse. A Lincoln County District Court judge set Nov. 23 for Fischer’s trial date. Her husband, Daniel Fischer, who also was charged, committed suicide in April. He had faced several counts of sexual assaulting children. According to court documents, five girls ages 7 to 15 reported being assaulted by Daniel Fischer at the couple’s home in Hershey. Authorities say Deanna Fischer photographed some of the assaults and did nothing to stop them.

Making new friends.. Can it be harder than dating?

When it comes to making new friends, it can be harder than dating.

It’s a totally different kind of expectation when it comes to meeting cool chicks that you just want to hang out with.

Here are some hints when it comes to scoping out new gal pals …

Throw out all expectations. We are far too hard on ourselves, and we are our own worse critics. Half the time what you’re thinking isn’t anywhere accurate to reality, so let it go.

Don’t stress out about it. If they don’t like you for who you are, forget them. You want real people you connect with, and real friends. Changing who you are to accommodate those around you is never a good thing. You’re not being true to yourself, and down the road, they’ll only call you out on it. It’s best to go out, have fun, do your thing, and be yourself. Talk about what you want to talk about, and share what you know. Stop with the pressure — it’s not worth it.

For the most part, people just want someone to hang out with. A lot of people have many acquaintances but very few good friends. Think about it that way, and you’ll be OK in life.

There are some fads from the ’80s that are coming back, whether we like them or not — like shoulder pads!

Cowboys and Aliens star Olivia Wilde showed up to the premiere wearing a little red frock with a couple of exaggerated shoulders. And as much as we’d like to hate it … she looked great!

Price Is Right host Drew Carey landed in the hospital yesterday after taking a tumble while jogging and separating his clavicle. As a result, the game show’s taping yesterday was cancelled. But Drew assured fans he’ll be back to work soon.

It’s a girl for Kevin Federline and girlfriend Victoria Prince. Jordan Kay is K-Fed’s fifth child. The former backup dancer has two sons with Britney Spears and a son and daughter with Shar Jackson.

Actor Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger) and his wife welcomed their fourth child, daughter Clover Elizabeth, on Monday.
