Broncos Move Back Workouts In Anticipation Of New League Year

Although the NFL’s free agency period has seen players agree to new contracts with their new teams, free agents aren’t officially allowed to practice with their teams until the league’s players have ratified the new collective bargaining agreement and the official new league year begins. The earliest the league year can begin is 4 PM Eastern time, if, as expected, the CBA is ratified. With that in mind, several teams, the Denver Broncos included, have moved back the start times of their workouts for today in order to have them start after the league year begins, so that their free agent signings can join the workouts. The Broncos have signed five free agents from other teams; wide reciever David Anderson, defensive linemen Derrick Harvey and Ty Warren, and tight ends Daniel Fells and Dante Rosario. The Broncos workout is scheduled for 4:50 Mountain time this afternoon.

Huskers Announce Non-Conference Games For 2012, 2013 Football Seasons

The Nebraska football schedules for the 2012 and 2013 seasons each grew by one opponent yesterday, as the Huskers added non-conference home games for each year. The Huskers will play Arkansas State at Memorial Stadium on September 15, 2012. The Huskers previously hosted the Red Wolves in 2009, beating them 38-9 in the only meeting between the two schools. The Huskers still have one non-conference game to add to the 2012 schedule, with games previously set against Southern Miss and at UCLA. The Huskers filled out their 2013 non-conference slate by adding a home game against South Dakota State on September 21 of that year. The Huskers beat the Jackrabbits 17-3 in Lincoln last season. Nebraska also plays at home against Wyoming and UCLA and at Southern Miss in 2013.

Rockies Blanked By Phillies

Kyle Kendrick may not be one of the Philadelphia Phillies ‘Big Four’ starting pitchers, but he looked like one against an impotent Colorado Rockies lineup last night. Kendrick tossed eight shutout innings, striking out seven, and Ryan Howard homered twice as the Phillies blanked the Rockies 5-0 at Coors Field. The Rockies managed just four hits on the night. Rockies starter Aaron Cook allowed four runs in four innings before leaving the game with neck spasms. Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki also left the game in the eighth inning with a bruised pinky finger. The Rockies have now lost three straight games. They hope to avoid a three-game sweep by the Phillies this afternoon at Coors Field. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action with pregame coverage starting at 1:30 and the first pitch at 2:10.
