FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) – Military officials are investigating the death of an 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper who died from complications associated with a heat-related injury sustained during physical training.  A statement from the 82nd Airborne Division said Monday that Sgt. Joshua Mann of Winside, Nebraska, died Saturday evening at Womack Army Medical Center after he was injured on Friday.  Mann served as an airborne infantry team leader with Company C, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team. Rockies Open Homestand With First Of Three Against Phillies (TONIGHT on ESPN 1410 AM)

The Colorado Rockies return home tonight to begin a seven-game homestand with a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s the second time this season the Rockies have seen the team with the National League’s best record. The teams split a pair of games in mid-May. The Rockies are fresh off a nine-game road trip out west that saw them go 4-5, including their fifteenth straight Sunday loss yesterday in San Diego. They sit 10 games out of first place in the National League West. The Rockies start Jhoulys Chacin on the mound tonight. Chacin is 0-4 in his last six starts after starting the season 8-4. The Phillies, leaders in the NL East by 6 games, start southpaw Cole Hamels, who is 12-6 on the year. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action from Coors Field tonight, with pregame coverage at 7:05 and the first pitch at 7:40.

Broncos Sign TE Rosario, DE Harvey

The Denver Broncos made two more free agent signings today, adding to their growing group of tight ends and adding depth on the defensive line. The Broncos finalized a one-year deal with tight end Dante Rosario, who played with new head coach John Fox in Carolina in his first four pro seasons. Rosario enjoyed his best pro season last year, catching a career-high 32 passes. The Broncos also signed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Derrick Harvey to a contract. Harvey was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft but quickly wore out his welcome in Jacksonville, recording just eight sacks in three seasons. Harvey projects as a backup at defensive end. The Broncos are still looking to add a defensive tackle, with veterans Ty Warren and Jamaal Anderson on their shopping list.

Scottsbluff leaders leave flood concerns behind

Platte River near Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) – As far as Scottsbluff leaders are concerned, their worries about summer flooding are over.  City Manager Rick Kuckkahn told Scottsbluff television KDUH that city government will refocus its attention on subjects other than flood protection.  The Riverside Discovery Center and campground have reopened, and any city-owned buildings that had water seep in have dried out.  Kuckkahn says Scottsbluff planned for flooding much worse that what occurred, but he says the city would do the same next time there was a threat from the North Platte River.
