Rockies Lose Fifteenth Straight Sunday Game

The Sunday losing streak has reached 15 for the Colorado Rockies. They lost yet another Sunday game, and a chance at a sweep, to the San Diego Padres by an 8-3 score yesterday afternoon in San Diego. The Rockies led 3-2 entering the eighth inning, but relievers Rex Brothers and Matt Belisle gave up six runs in the bottom half to lead to the loss. The bullpen meltdown wiped out seven strong innings from starting pitcher Juan Nicasio, who struck out a career-high 10 but had to settle for the no-decision. Troy Tulowitzki drove in a pair of runs to lead the Rockies offensively. The Rockies end their nine-game Western road swing with a 4-5 record. They’re back home in Denver tonight to start a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action tonight with pregame coverage at 7:05 and the first pitch at 7:40.

Broncos Sign TE Fells, Re-Sign DT Thomas

The Denver Broncos signed a free agent tight end yesterday to supplement two returning veterans and a pair of rookies drafted at the position. Daniel Fells, who played his first three seasons in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams, agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Broncos. Fells caught 41 passes and scored two touchdowns last season in his most productive season as a pro. He joins rookies Julius Thomas and Virgil Green and veterans Dan Gronkowski and Richard Quinn as tight ends on the roster. Former Carolina Panthers tight end Dante Rosario had reportedly agreed to terms with the Broncos as well, but the signing of Fells may change Rosario’s decision. The Broncos also shored up their defensive line by re-signing defensive tackle Marcus Thomas. Thomas has played in all 48 games he’s spent with the Broncos the last four seasons.

Two Non-Conference Opponents For Husker Men’s Hoops Revealed

The Nebraska men’s basketball schedule for the 2011-2012 season won’t be revealed until next week, when the Big Ten Conference schedule is released. But some of Nebraska’s non-conference opponents have let slip that the Huskers are on their slate for the coming campaign. The Huskers will travel to Los Angeles to take on USC on November 14th. It will be the third straight year the Huskers have faced the Trojans, with Nebraska having won both previous meetings. In addition, Nebraska will play host to Rhode Island on November 20th. The Rams are a member of the Atlantic-10 Conference and won 20 games last season. These non-conference tilts are in addition to known contests on the road against Creighton and TCU and a known home game against South Dakota.
