Huskers Defensive Coordinator ‘Embarrassed’ After Saturday’s Win

Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini didn’t pull any punches when asked to describe the play of his defense in Saturday’s game against Fresno State. “We have our standards that we want to play by. Saturday we didn’t feel like we played up to our standards. We are not a very good defensive football team. We are only as good as our last performance, ”Pelini said. “You guys told our guys for six months how great they were going to be, and I think they bought into it. You have to respect Division I opponents. Fresno State is a great football team. They out-executed us. I’m furious about our performance, and I’m embarrassed and I hope our players are too.” The Huskers gave up 444 yards of total offense and didn’t record a sack in the 42-29 win. This week, the tenth-ranked Huskers have to deal with Washington’s talent running back, Chris Polk, who shredded the Huskers for 177 yards on the ground in last season’s Holiday Bowl. It’s Nebraska’s third meeting against the Huskies in the last 12 months.
