STREAK STOPPERS: Irish Dethrone Bluehawks, Move To Semifinals

For the second straight season, the St. Patrick’s Irish are headed to the Class C2 football state semifinals after defeating Hastings St. Cecilia 13-7 last night in Hastings. Thatcher Vap’s two rushing touchdowns, and a dominant defensive performance, dethroned the two-time defending state champions and halted the longest active winning streak in Nebraska prep football at 36 games. The Irish move on to a rematch with Kearney Catholic, the only team to beat them this season, in the semifinals. The Stars topped the Irish 24-10 in Kearney in the third week of the regular season. The game will be held at Knights of Columbus Field in North Platte next Tuesday night at 6 PM. The game will be heard on ESPN Radio 1410.
