Man Returns Money Stolen Decades Ago

(UPI.com)

A man who stole money from a Seattle store more than 60 years ago gave the cash back with interest, a store manager said.

Gary Lorentson, manager of the Sears store in downtown Seattle, said an elderly man came into the store around 10 a.m. Monday and gave an envelope labeled “Sears manager” to the customer service desk.

Lorentson said the envelope contained a $100 bill and a note.

“During the late (forties) I stole some money from the cash register in the amount of $20-$30,” the note read. “I want to pay you back this money in the amount of $100 to put in your theft account.”

Lorentson said the man did not identify himself.

“I think his conscience has been bothering him for the past 60 years,” the manager said.

He said the money will be put toward helping needy families during the holiday season.
