The Colorado Rockies addressed a void in their everyday lineup this weekend by making a trade for an everyday second baseman. The Rockies acquired veteran Marco Scutaro from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Clayton Mortensen in a deal made official on Saturday night. Scutaro was the everyday shortstop the last two seasons in Boston. He batted .299 with seven home runs and 54 RBI in 113 games in the 2011 season. The 36-year old Scutaro is a lifetime .270 hitter in ten major league seasons with four different teams. He’ll slide over to second with the Rockies, as Troy Tulowitzki is entrenched at shortstop, and he will likely bat second in the batting order. To complete the deal, the Rockies had to agree to take on the six million dollars owed to Scutaro in the final year of his contract.
