Husker Women Visit Ohio State Tonight

The 20th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team will try and rebound from their first Big Ten loss of the season, but starting a new winning streak won’t come easily as they meet 10th-ranked Ohio State in Columbus tonight. The Huskers fell to Penn State 93-73 at home on Sunday to bring their nine-game winning streak to an end and drop them to 4-1 in conference play. It’s their fourth time out on the road in this young Big Ten season. The Huskers are perfect thus far away from the Devaney Center in the conference. The Buckeyes are also 4-1 in the league, and have a 17-1 record on the season. Nebraska hasn’t played Ohio State since December 2007, when they lost to the Buckeyes 86-74 in Columbus. Tipoff is set for 5 PM tonight. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.

Miller Leads Nuggets to OT Win In Philly

Andre Miller’s big night led the Denver Nuggets to a 108-104 overtime victory on the road against the Philadelphia 76ers last night. The veteran point guard tallied 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists to lead the Nuggets to their second win in as many evenings. His basket in the final minute of OT gave the Nuggets the lead for good. The Nuggets trailed by as many as 15 in the first half but battled back to take a five point lead into the locker room. Miller scored Denver’s last 10 points of regulation to help force overtime. Denver travels to play the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Update: Feds: Keystone XL- Thanks, but no thanks…..for now?

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama and Congress are back where they were before Christmas, locked in an election-season tussle over a proposed 1,700-mile oil pipeline from Canada to Texas.
Republicans hope to again force Obama to make a politically risky decision, while the president is seeking to put it off until after the November elections.
Obama blocked the $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline on Wednesday, at least temporarily, but Republicans immediately signaled their intention to try again to force the issue. Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, says he will call Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who recommended the rejection, to testify at a hearing as early as next Wednesday, the day after Obama gives his State of the Union address.

SPVA: Sutherland, Chase County Win Boys Play-in Games

Chase County and Sutherland advanced to the semifinal round of the SPVA boys basketball tournament with victories in the play-in games last night. The fourth-seeded Longhorns cruised past Maxwell 50-33, and the third-seed Sailors held off a stubborn Perkins County squad 60-54. Chase County will match up with St. Pat’s in the semifinal round, while Sutherland will face Hershey. Semifinals in the boys tournament are scheduled for Friday night. The SPVA girls tournament resumes tomorrow night with semifinal action.

Huskers Host Hoosiers in Big Ten Clash

One of the most storied programs in college basketball history makes its first visit to Lincoln since 1942 tonight. The Indiana Hoosiers, the 11th-ranked team in the country, comes to the Devaney Center tonight to face the slumping Nebraska men. The Huskers could not build on their first Big Ten conference win of the season, losing at Wisconsin 50-45 on Sunday afternoon in their last game. The Hoosiers have struggled as of late as well, losing to Minnesota and Ohio State last week to fall four spots from 7th in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Though the two teams haven’t played in Nebraska in 70 years, they have met ten times in history, with the last time a Hoosiers victory in Indianapolis back in 1982. Tip-off from the Devaney Center tonight is set for 6:00. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Nuggets Get Road Win at Milwaukee

The Denver Nuggets used a monster 37-point second quarter to build a big lead they would not relinquish in a 105-95 win against the Milwaukee Bucks in Milwaukee last night. Six Nuggets scored in double figures to carry the offensive effort that led to a 19-point halftime lead. Though the Bucks would get as close as nine in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets got five straight points from Danilo Gallinari to ward off any potential threat. Reserve guard Corey Brewer led the way with a season-high 22 points on the night. Al Harrington added 16 off the bench, and Gallinari and Nene added 14 points apiece. The win gives the Nuggets a two-game season series sweep of the Bucks and moves their record to 9-5. The Nuggets continue their five-game road trip tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Storm Lose Fifth Straight

The Tri-City Storm lost their fifth consecutive game in blowout fashion last night, falling on the road 7-0 to the Lincoln Stars. The Stars scored less than two minutes into the contest and had their second less than six minutes in. They would add two goals in the second quarter and three more in the third to complete the rout. The Storm have lost their last three games by the combined score of 19-3. They are back on home ice this weekend, hosting Waterloo on Friday and Saturday night at the Viaero Events Center in Kearney.
