Knights Men Back In Action Tonight (Listen Live on ESPN Radio 1410)

The North Platte Community College Knights finished the 2011 calendar year on a down note. After winning six of their first seven games, they lost four of their last five to go into their extended holiday break with a disappointing 7-5 record. But with a new year comes new opportunity, and the new opportunity for the Knights begins tonight at the NPCC Classic at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium. Tonight, the Knights take on the Midland University JV. Tomorrow afternoon, they will battle Otero Junior College in a clash of Region IX South Subregion foes. They are the first of nine games the Knights will play this month, seven of which are home games. Tonight’s game can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1410. Pregame coverage gets underway at 7:15, with the tip-off scheduled for 7:30.

Husker Ladies Power Past Hoosiers

The 19th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team overcame a slow start and cruised to a 62-48 victory over Indiana at the Devaney Center last night. In their first ever Big Ten home game, the Huskers fell behind by eight midway through the first half but closed out the half on a 25-4 run to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room. They extended their run by scoring the first nine points of the second half and never looked back. Reigning Big Ten Player of the Week Jordan Hooper posted yet another double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Emily Cady, who tied her season high tally with 18 points. The win moves the Husker women to 13-1 and 2-0 in Big Ten play. They are back in action Sunday afternoon at Iowa.

Former Neb. prep coach pleads not guilty

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) – A former assistant football coach at Sidney High School has pleaded not guilty to drug charges.
41-year-old Robert Lewis entered a written plea on Wednesday in Cheyenne County District Court.
Lewis was charged with three drug charges after a traffic stop in Sidney in November. Court documents show Nebraska State Patrol troopers found marijuana and hashish in his car.
Lewis had been on the coaching staff for ten years. He no longer works for the school district.
Court records show Judge Derek Weimer has recused himself from the case, which has been assigned to Judge Travis P. O’Gorman. A hearing is set for Feb. 1.

Another child pornographer to pay the piper…

Thomas Schildt

GERING, Neb. (AP) – A Gering man accused of having thousands of images of child pornography on his home computer now faces federal charges in the case.
Twenty-nine-year-old Thomas Schildt is charged with possessing and distributing child pornography. He was arrested on a federal warrant on Tuesday, and is scheduled to be in federal court in Lincoln on Friday.
Gering was arrested on state charges in November in what Attorney General Jon Bruning called the largest child pornography case his office has investigated. The state charges were dismissed last month in anticipation of the federal charges.
Bruning says a search of seven hard drives turned up more than 200,000 images and videos. Burning says at least 15,000 have been identified by law enforcement as known images of child pornography.

Pop, energy drink tax coming?

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A Nebraska lawmaker wants to end a state sales tax exemption on soda pop and energy drinks and use the money to fight childhood obesity.
State Sen. Bill Avery of Lincoln introduced a measure (LB753) Wednesday that would channel the tax revenue into state-based efforts to promote heath. The bill would allocate $100,000 for a statewide database to monitor student obesity and fitness.
Some of the money would go to the state Department of Education to improve school meal programs and support school district wellness coordinators.
Avery introduced the bill on the first day of an expected 60-day legislative session.

(Letters To The Post) SURPRISE! Uh Oh…

Submitted by Aimee

Here’s my deal, two months ago I attended a friend’s wedding out of town, and hooked up with a very good looking, successful man. We had few drinks, and we spent the night in my hotel room. I felt really connected to him as did he to me. We kept calling each other for a couple of weeks after returning back home and even made plans to see each other next weekend! Everything was great, until I found out that he’s married and I am now pregnant with his child.

Since letting him know all this he stopped picking up my calls, blocked my number and never replies to any of my e-mails. What should I do?
