Huskers Blown Out At Home By No. 22 Michigan

The Nebraska men’s basketball team was run off their own home floor by 22nd-ranked Michigan last night, falling 62-46. Another anemic offensive performance led to a third straight loss for the Huskers, as they shot just 39 percent from the field. A tough first-half defensive effort kept the game close, as Nebraska trailed by just 22-15 at the halftime break, but Michigan shot 76 percent from the field in the second half and led by as many as 26 on their way to victory. Bo Spencer was the lone Husker in double figures, scoring 13 points. It’s Nebraska’s seventh home loss, their most losses in Lincoln since the 1962-63 season. Their average margin of defeat at home this year is 15 points. The Huskers fall to 11-12 and 3-9 in the Big Ten with the defeat. They visit Penn State on Saturday afternoon.

No. 13 Husker Women Host Wolverines Tonight

The 13th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team returns home for the first time in two weeks to host Michigan tonight at the Devaney Center. The Huskers haven’t played since their epic triple overtime victory over Purdue in West Lafayette last Thursday night. That victory moved the Huskers to 19-3 on the season and 8-2 in the Big Ten, which puts them in a tie with the Boilermakers atop the conference. A win tonight would give the Huskers the 13th 20-win season in program history. The Wolverines won’t be a pushover. They’re 17-7 on the season and 6-5 in conference play, but coming off a painful two-point home loss to Michigan State on Sunday. Nebraska has never lost to Michigan in six previous meetings. Tipoff from the Devaney Center tonight is scheduled for 7:05.

NP man pleads no contest in hostage case

Carlos Charging Elk

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – A North Platte man charged with holding paramedics hostage and threatening to kill them has pleaded no contest.
Carlos Charging Elk made a deal with prosecutors, who dropped three counts of terroristic threats. On Tuesday Charging Elk pleaded to two counts of false imprisonment and one weapons charge. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on March 19.
Authorities say Charging Elk lured paramedics to his home with a false 911 call in August. Police say he pulled a knife and held two paramedics hostage.
