The Nebraska men’s basketball team was blitzed from the start by a hot-shooting Purdue team in an 83-65 loss in West Lafayette, Indiana last night. The Boilermakers shot 63 percent in the first half and pulled to a 47-30 halftime lead. The Huskers were never able to get closer than 14 points in the second half as Purdue cruised to the win. Though Nebraska shot 52 percent from the field, they were outdone by Purdue shooting 54.5 percent and making 13 three-pointers. Bo Spencer had another strong offensive night for the Huskers in the defeat, scoring 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting. He was the only Husker in double figures. High court rules for power company over Montana dams

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court has sided with a power
company in a dispute with Montana over who owns the riverbeds
beneath 10 dams sitting on three Montana rivers.
In a case that reached back to the travels of Lewis and Clark
more than 200 years ago, the court voted unanimously Wednesday to
throw out a state court ruling that could have cost the company
more than $50 million.
The justices said the Montana Supreme Court was wrong to
conclude that the state owns the riverbeds and ordered the state
court to take another look at the case.

Neb. jail official accused of refusing a prisoner

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) – A jail official in central Nebraska has been investigated for misconduct after refusing to take custody of a prisoner, but it’s not clear if he will face any charges.
32-year-old Jimmy Vann could face a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct for the Feb. 1 incident. Vann is Hall County’s assistant corrections director.
A brief police report says this matter is related to the arrest of Jeremie Mitchell on a bench warrant for missing his trial for criminal mischief.
It’s not clear exactly what happened because officials are not saying much about the case. Vann and police referred questions to County Attorney Mark Young who declined to comment. Young says he’ll likely refer the matter to the attorney general’s office.
