Lopez is still being sought on charges of aiding and abetting second degree assault, third degree assault and second degree trespassing.

Total number of Nebraska farms drops again

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – The number of Nebraska farms dropped again last year.
A report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says the total hit 46,800 in 2011, compared with 47,200 in 2010.
The service says the 2010 figure was unchanged from 2009. But those figures were down 200 from 2008’s count.
In Nebraska, the average farm size was 972 acres last year, compared with 966 the year before.
The number of Nebraska farms with annual sales above $500,000 grew by 1,500 in 2011. Much of that was offset by a combined drop of 1,100 for the sales categories of $100,000 to $250,000 and $250,000 to $500,000. The USDA says higher commodity prices were a major factor in those figures.

Rockies, Tracy Come to Handshake Agreement on Long-Term Extension

On paper, Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy is in the final year of his contract, but progress towards a long-term extension began with a handshake. The Rockies and Tracy announced an official agreement on what both parties are calling an ‘indefinite’ contract extension. Citing his leadership skills and calling him a ‘difference-maker’ in the clubhouse. Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd says a handshake is sufficient enough for now to serve as a commitment to Tracy as the team’s manager through 2013, and perhaps beyond. Tracy was the National League’s Manager of the Year in 2009 after taking over the Rockies in late May and guiding them to a 74-42 record and a playoff appearance. But the Rockies are just 156-168 in two years since, including a disappointing 73-89 last season.
