Investigation Into Monday’s Venango Fire Ongoing

VENANGO, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a grass fire that blackened several acres of grass and brush stopped short of burning buildings in the southwest Nebraska town of Venango.

Venango Fire Chief Steve Tucker says the blaze was reported around 2 p.m. Monday. Tucker says it burned inside city limits but didn’t reach any homes or other buildings. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from eight departments joined the battle. Estimates of the fire’s extent ranged up to 40 acres.

The fire cause is being investigated.
