The Turkish-born and British-educated producer arrived at Atlantic Records in the early ’60s as a studio manager and arranger. His first production was The Rascals‘ chart-topping “Good Lovin’.” He followed that with hits for Aretha FranklinChaka KhanRay CharlesA-W-B and helped steer The Bee Gees toward R-&-B, which led to the hugely successfulMain Course album that revived their career in ’75. In the 21st century, he produced Norah Jones‘s first two chart-topping albums, before succumbing to pancreatic cancer on June 25th, 2006 at 74.
