Tempers flared in the Colorado Rockies’ 12-10 loss to the Cleveland Indians in Cactus League play yesterday. Former Rockie pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, traded to the Indians last summer, hit Troy Tulowitzki in the left elbow in the first inning, causing the benches to clear. Jimenez had made critical comments about his relationship with the Rockies organization this offseason, to which Tulowitzki had responded. After the game, Jimenez claimed the beaning wasn’t intentional, but the Rockies did not agree, with manager Jim Tracy calling it ‘classless’ and suggesting that Jimenez should be suspended. Tulowitzki was removed from the game after being hit, but x-rays were negative and he is expected to be ready for Friday’s regular season opener. The Rockies take on the Seattle Mariners this afternoon.
