It’s being called the biggest series at Hawks Field since 2008, and it opens tonight, when the Big Ten leading Purdue Boilermakers take on the homestanding Huskers in game one of their crucial three-game series. The visitors are the 16th ranked team in the country and feature the conference’s best pitching staff, which will be tested by the Nebraska offense, which leads the conference in runs per game. Purdue is 29-5 on the season and 10-2 in the Big Ten, while the Huskers are 25-13 and 7-5 in the Big Ten, a mark good for third place. Purdue will counter with unbeaten senior righty Joe Haase. First pitch in Lincoln tonight is set for 6:35.
