NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – Lincoln County authorities are trying to identify the remains of a person found along the South Platte River.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department says a skeleton was found Friday afternoon by a man hunting mushrooms about a half-mile west of U.S. Highway 83.
Investigators have determined that it is a human skeleton but not the sex or age of the person. No identification documents were found at the scene.
Sheriff Jerome Kramer says the area is frequented by homeless people who often set up camps underneath a nearby bridge.
It’s unclear whether the person died of natural causes, suicide or was a crime victim. An autopsy was scheduled.
