A standout big league debut helped the Colorado Rockies snap a five-game losing streak as they defeated the San Diego Padres 6-2 in San Diego yesterday. Rockies starting pitcher Christian Friedrich, the club’s first round draft pick in 2008, earned the win in his first start with the big club. The southpaw allowed just one earned run in six innings while striking out seven. He was backed by two RBI apiece from Chris Nelson and Wilin Rosario, whose two run double in the fifth inning put the Rockies in front to stay. Michael Cuddyer and Jason Giambi also drove in runs for the Rockies in the victory. The win helps the Rockies salvage a game in their three-game visit to San Diego. They’re off today before opening a three-game set in Los Angeles against the National League West Division leading Dodgers tomorrow night.
