WEEKEND WRAP

The Avengers stayed on top as the Number One movie for the third weekend in a row, adding another $55.1 million domestically and $56 million overseas. At $1.18 billion worldwide, The Avengers is now the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time, behind box office champion Avatar, which made $2.8 billion, Titanic, at $2.2 billion, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which made $1.3 billion.

Opening in a distant second place was Battleship, the board game adaptation about a small fleet of U.S. Navy battleships engaged in a fight at sea against alien invaders. Starring are Liam NeesonTaylor KitschAlexander Skarsgard, singer RihannaBrooklyn Decker and Jerry Ferrara.

The Sacha Baron Cohen satire The Dictator, in which the Borat comedian plays a tyrannical leader of a fictional north African nation who’s trying to keep democracy out of his country, debuted at Number Three in its first weekend after opening last Wednesday (May 16th). Anna FarisBen Kingsley and Horatio Sanzco-star.

The romantic comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting, based on the popular pregnancy advice book and starring an ensemble cast as expectant or new parents, opened in fifth place. Starring areCameron DiazJennifer LopezElizabeth BanksChace CrawfordDennis QuaidChris Rock andAnna Kendrick.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have had a crazy week. Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco the same day as Zuckerberg’s birthday. Facebook went public which put Zuckerberg in the $19 billion club and then over the weekend, the couple invited 100 friends and family members to celebrate Chan’s graduation as well as their wedding.

According to Us Weekly, the low-key ceremony occurred in their backyard and the couple had reportedly been planning it for five months.  Zuckerberg wore a suit and tie and Chan wore a traditional wedding gown. Reportedly, Zuckerberg designed a ruby ring for Chan and she did not see it until the wedding.

  • Guests ate family style from the couple’s favorite restaurants, Palo Alto Sol and Fuki Sushi.
  • For dessert, the couple had burdick chocolate “mice,” which the couple shared on their first date.
ELLEN DEGENERES BUYS NEW HOME: Ellen DeGeneres reportedly sold her Beverly Hills compound to Ryan Seacrest for $49 million and now her and her wife, Portia de Rossi are moving. Ellen and Portia’s new home is 8,500 square feet and was designed by the famous architect Hal Levitt. According toRadarOnline.com, it was built in 1958 and features walls of glass, several fireplaces, a library and four bedrooms and six bathrooms. There is also a swimming pool. CHRIS PINE DEBUTS GF: Chris Pine debuted his girlfriend on the red carpet at Cannes. Chris and Dominique Piek have been dating since last year but this was the first time they hit the crimson together. Dominique tweeted, “Nothing could have prepared me for the crazy red carpet experience. Thank goodness I made it in one piece up the stairs!”

TAYLOR ARMSTRONG DENIES THAT SHE’S AN ALCOHOLIC: Taylor Armstrong of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, continues to deny that she is an alcoholic. According to RadarOnline.com, her fellow cast mates want her to seek treatment. A source said, “Taylor insists that she definitely doesn’t have a drinking problem. Taylor is steadfast that she doesn’t abuse alcohol and that her focus is being the best mother possible to her daughter. She doesn’t like the meddling that the other Housewives are causing in her life right now. She says the only reason that she drinks is to relax and unwind a bit at the end of the day, and that she never drinks before 6 p.m. and usually will only have a drink or two after Kennedy has gone to sleep.” However, Taylor did get extremely intoxicated at Kyle Richards’ daughters’ fourth birthday party.

KRISTIN CAVALLARI’S BABY SHOWER: Kristin Cavallari and her fiance, Jay Cutler were reportedly joined by about 30 guests at their co-ed baby shower. Some of the guests included Kristin’s former MTVcostars: Stephanie PrattHeidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. According to Us Weekly, the baby shower was at a private residence in West Hollywood. A source said, “Kristin was glowing and gorgeous. She looked so happy! Guys were there, too. It was co-ed.” Kristin and Jay have put their wedding plans on hold until after the baby comes.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER BEING THREATENED: Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” has been receiving many email death threats. The email threats are so harsh that the FBI has actually begun investigating them. One message reportedly read, “I’m going to murder you. I’m going to come to Hawaii and murder you and your family in cold blood. You are next on my list and are the bane of society. I will deliver you to God.” According to Celebritygossip.net, the family is taking these threats very seriously and are concerned.

JACKIE CHAN CALLING IT QUITS: Jackie Chan admitted at a Cannes press conference that his latest film, Chinese Zodiac is his 100th movie and he intends on giving up action films for good. He said, “This will be my last action movie. I will ask my body how long I can go . . . I tell you, I am not young any more. I am really, really tired. The world is too violent now. It’s a dilemma because I like action, but I don’t like the violence. I don’t just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor. I want to be an Asian Robert De Niro. I want to get rid of my image. So, for the last ten years I’ve done other films like The Karate Kid, where I’d rather play an old man. I want the audience to know I’m not just about fighting or comedy, also I can act.”

JENNIFER LOPEZ NOT LEAVING IDOL: Jennifer Lopez took to Twitter to refute reports that she is leaving American Idol. Jennifer tweeted, “There is no truth to reports that say I am definitely leaving Idol. All I said was I haven’t decided what I am doing next year. When I know for sure what I’m doing I will let the#LOVE!RS know! #FYITweets.” Jennifer is getting ready to embark on a 20-city tour through North and South America, which may conflict with Idol auditions and pre-taping.

JENNY MCCARTHY STRIPPING: Jenny McCarthy is posing for Playboy 20 years after she did the first time. McCarthy, 39, is scheduled to be the cover girl for the July/August issue. She will also be pictured nude inside. Jenny was Playmate of the Year in 1993.

 AVENGERS BEATS BATTLESHIP: The Avengers topped the weekend box office results for its third week of being released. The Avengers sold another $55 million in ticket sales, bringing its North American total to nearly half a billion. Battleship reportedly took in a little over $25 million — nothing compared to the $200 million it cost to produce.

DAN HARMON NO LONGER COMMUNITY SHOWRUNNER: Sony Pictures Television has confirmed that Dan Harmon will no longer be the showrunner on Community. Harmon will reportedly remain as the consulting producer. A source said, “I know [Joel] McHale didn’t want that. This is Sony’s move, 100 percent. The whole crew was up in the air about returning again.”

CHACE CRAWFORD DISCUSSES GOSSIP GIRL MOVIE: Chace Crawford isn’t exactly on board for aGossip Girl movie once the season finally comes to an end. He told E!, that he only started thinking about it recently. He said, “It had never even crossed my mind so it was like, that’s weird. I don’t know if I want that, or do not want that. I don’t know what the logistics would be on that. I would imagine it’s a long shot. Who knows?” Meanwhile, Chace is reportedly dating ESPN reporter, Erin Andrews.

KRISTEN WIIG LEAVING SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: Kristen Wiig got an all star send off during the final sketch of this week’s Saturday Night Live. The musical guest, Mick Jagger, played the principal at a high school graduation and brought up Wiig in cap and gown. She danced with Jagger, cast members and executive producer, Lorne Michaels to the Rolling Stones classic, “She’s a Rainbow.” NBC made no prior announcement of her departure. Reportedly, she has six movies in various stages of development. Some of Wiigs characters included: BjorkKathie Lee Gifford and Nancy Pelosi.

DEMI MOORE IS A VERY GOOD GIRL: Demi Moore has reportedly joined the cast of Very Good Girls. She will play Elizabeth Olsen’s mom in the film. The movie centers around best friends, played by Olsen and Dakota Fanning, who are determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult work. According to Deadline, the film is set to start shooting in June in New York.
