Huskers Open Big Ten Tourney Today; Nine Honored With Conference Awards

The Husker baseball team opens Big Ten tournament play this afternoon with a matchup against Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio. The Huskers enter the postseason as the top offense in the Big Ten, and they take on a Spartan team who led the Big Ten in ERA. Kyle Kubat looks for his fourth win in as many starts for the Huskers on the mound. First pitch is set for 11:05.

Eight Nebraska baseball players earned All-Big Ten honors on Tuesday Shortstop Chad Christensen, outfielder Rich Sanguinetti and designated hitter Michael Pritchard, who all earned first-team honors. Third baseman Josh Scheffert was the Huskers’ lone second-team pick. First baseman Richard Stock, second baseman Pat Kelly and starting pitcher Kyle Kubat were all third-team selections. Kelly and Kubat were also named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team, along with outfielder Austin Darby. Catcher Cory Burleson was honored as the team’s Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
