One day after signing his first professional contract, former Husker defensive back Alfonzo Dennard filed a not guilty plea to a charge of third-degree assault of a police officer. Dennard was arrested after an altercation outside a Lincoln bar in the early morning hours of April 21, one week before the NFL Draft. The incident damaged Dennard’s draft stock, and he fell to the seventh round, where he was selected by the New England Patriots.
