1754, The first cartoon appeared in The Pennsylvania Gazette. The cartoon appeared as part of an editorial by Benjamin Franklin commenting on the disunited state of the British Colonies. The title of the featured cartoon is “JOIN or DIE,” and is a drawing of a snake, chopped into eight pieces, each labeled with the abbreviation for one of the colonies.
1860, Sir James Barrie, author of Peter Pan, was born. He died June 19th, 1937.

ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO WELCOMES SON: Alessandra Ambrosio has given birth. The model announced that she and fiance Jamie Mazur welcomed their second child, a son, on Monday (May 7th). She wrote on Facebook, “Well, the day just arrived and we couldn’t be more happy!!! Noah Phoenix was born yesterday afternoon and already stole our hearts. Anja is a proud big sister now and we are so thankful he is with us.”

SECOND MAN ACCUSES JOHN TRAVOLTA OF SEXUAL BATTERY: A second man has been added to the sexual battery and harassment lawsuit against John Travolta. This masseur is also accusing the actor of improper behavior during a massage and Travolta’s lawyer denies this instance as well. Attorney Marty Singer said, “This second ‘anonymous’ claim is just as absurd and ridiculous as the first one. The attorney who filed the lawsuit on behalf of his second anonymous client, who does not want to disclose his name although he is required to do so, was notified that his first client’s claims were totally false and fabricated, since our client was not in L.A. when anonymous ‘Doe #1’ claims he interacted with John Travolta.”

JACK NICHOLSON’S DAUGHTER ARRESTED: Jack Nicholson’s 17-year-old daughter, Tessa Gourin was arrested for smoking marijuana in New York City last Friday (May 4th). The New York Post reported that Gourin only had a minimal amount of the drug on her, but was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and issued with a desk appearance ticket.

TERI HATCHER HATED BY CO-STARS? Teri Hatcher is an outcast on the set of Desperate Housewives. An apparent feud between the ladies was brought to light by a parting gift most of the ladies purchased for the crew. Celebuzz.com reported that Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman andVanessa Williams bought carryon luggage for the crew members with a card that read, “Just know that on all your future adventures you are carrying a little piece of our love and gratitude. Thank you for a magical 8 years. Eva, Marcia, Felicity and Vanessa.” A source told Celebuzz, “The girls don’t get along with Teri so they organized this and left her out.”

JESSICA CHASTAIN DROPS OUT OF ‘IRON MAN 3’: Jessica Chastain has backed out of Iron Man 3, citing her busy schedule as the reason. The actress, who had signed on to play a “sexy scientist” announced she’d be dropping out on Facebook. She wrote, “Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jam-packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the Iron Man 3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out.”WOODY ALLEN CREATING ROLE FOR LINDSAY? Lindsay Lohan might be Woody Allen’s latest muse. Although it was reported that no specific project was discussed when the two had dinner last weekend, X17Online.com claims that Woody wants to work with Lindsay. A source told the site, “Woody is feeling her [Lindsay] out by taking her out to dinner to get to know her. He’s considering building a character around her for an upcoming film.” Allen’s previous muses include Scarlett Johansson, who appeared in three films over three years and Diane Keaton, who starred in eight of his movies.

‘THE CLIENT LIST’ GETS A SECOND SEASON: Lifetime has renewed Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Client List for a second season. The network president released a statement saying, “‘The Client List’ represents everything we want to be — fresh, exciting and original with attitude. We love Jennifer and this series, and are equally thrilled that they have connected with our audience.” 15 new episodes will premiere in 2013.

BRAD PITT WILL BE FACE OF CHANEL NO. 5: Brad Pitt is the new face of Chanel’s signature No. 5 scent. Although his rep hasn’t commented, E! reported that Pitt will shoot his first perfume ad in London sometime this week.

Huskers Routed by Blue Jays

The Husker baseball team fell behind early and never recovered in an 8-1 loss to Creighton last night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. Husker starting pitcher Tom Lemke allowed three runs in the first inning that would prove to be an opening act for a Blue Jay offensive assault that produced sixteen hits. Eight Blue Jay hurlers managed to scatter eight Husker hits, with an RBI single by Mike Pritchard in the third inning producing the Big Red’s only run. Pritchard extended his hitting streak to 25 games, which ties him for the third longest streak for a Husker since 1958, with his 4-for-4 performance at the plate. Creighton padded their lead with two runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh frame. The Huskers drop to 29-19 overall with their third straight loss. They host Minnesota in a three-game Big Ten series starting Friday.

Rockies Drop Fifth in a Row (LISTEN LIVE TODAY on ESPN Radio 1410)

The Colorado Rockies got a good outing from a starting pitcher, but even that wasn’t enough to snap their now five-game losing streak as they fell to the San Diego Padres 3-1 last night in San Diego. Making his debut with the Rockies in 2012, pitcher Alex White pitched six and a third innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out five, but the Rockies failed to back him offensively despite nine hits. Todd Helton’s RBI single in the first inning produced the lone Rockies run. The Rockies will try and salvage a game in this three-game series this afternoon. Left-hander Christian Friedrich, the Rockies first round pick in 2008, will make his major league debut on the mound. ESPN Radio 1410 has the call of the game with the pregame show starting at 2:05 and first pitch at 2:35.

Nuggets Hold On to Force Game Six

The Denver Nuggets are still alive in the NBA playoffs. The Nuggets withstood a furious rally by Kobe Bryant to top the Los Angeles Lakers 102-99 in Los Angeles to force a Game Six in their first round series. The Nuggets led by as many as ten in the first half and claimed a 49-43 lead at the break. A 10-2 run to close the third quarter gave the Nuggets a 76-65 lead heading into the final twelve minutes. The Nuggets led by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter, but Bryant erupted late to pull the Lakers within three in the final seconds. Bryant and Ramon Sessions missed tying threes as the buzzer sounded. The Nuggets were led by Andre Miller’s 24 points and 8 assists, and Javale McGee’s 21 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe had 43 for the Lakers in the loss. Game Six is set for Thursday night at Pepsi Center in Denver.
