OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Opponents of a Canadian crude oil pipeline have made good on their threat to challenge Nebraska’s new pipeline siting law in court. The lawsuit filed Wednesday by several Nebraska landowners along TransCanada’s proposed pipeline route argues that the law outlining the review process is unconstitutional. The pipeline opponents say the law doesn’t allow for judicial review and doesn’t spell out what criteria should be considered when a proposed pipeline is being evaluated. The Nebraska Attorney General’s office declined to comment on the lawsuit because it had not received a copy of it. TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL project is designed to carry oil from Canada across Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. TransCanada also has proposed connecting it to the Bakken oil field in Montana and North Dakota.

No Dress Shoes, No Slacks, No Graduation For NE Teen
HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — The mother of a south-central Nebraska boy says he wasn’t allowed to attend his graduation ceremony because his clothing and shoes didn’t meet school expectations. Nancy Johnson, of Hastings, told the Hastings Tribune that her son stood in a lobby on May 5 while his classmates stepped forward to receive their diplomas at Adams Central High School. Johnson says her son, Hunter, had worn a T-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes but was soon told he couldn’t participate unless he changed into nicer clothing. He called his mom, who took him clean jeans. She says he doesn’t have dress shoes or pants and that the jeans ultimately kept him out of the ceremony. District Superintendent Shawn Scott says graduates should be respectful for such ceremonies, which includes meeting expectations for attire.

Troopers Honored for Efforts to Stop Impaired Driving
From Deb Collins / Nebraska State Patrol: (Lincoln, Neb.)- Sworn members of the Nebraska State Patrol were honored during the 13th annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Outstanding Law Enforcement Awards & Recognition ceremony.
The awards ceremony held Tuesday, May 22, in Lincoln, recognized law enforcement officers who work daily to ensure Nebraska roadways are kept safe from drinking and drugged drivers.
“By removing impaired drivers from our roadways these troopers are helping to reduce the potential for serious injury or fatality crashes,” said Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “We join MADD in congratulating them on their dedication to saving lives.”

Football star Donald Driver can add the “Dancing With the Stars” mirrorball trophy to his awards collection. After the win, he and partner Peta Murgatroyd hoisted the glittery prize above their heads as streamers and confetti filled the ballroom. NO JAIL FOR BROOKE MUELLER: Brooke Mueller has escaped jail time in her cocaine possession case. TMZ reported that Mueller copped a plea deal, admitting to one count of cocaine possession in exchange for a sentence of a year’s probation. While on probation, Brooke is prohibited from drinking alcohol and must submit to random urinalysis. After the arrest, Brooke spent three months in rehab.
‘DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER’ CANCELLED: Dog the Bounty Hunter is going off the air. After eight seasons, A&E has cancelled the reality series starring Duane “Dog” Chapman. The show featured Chapman, a bail bondsman, and his family as they tracked down fugitives and dealt with their own personal issues. No specific reason was given for the cancellation. ‘AGT’ RATINGS DROP: Howard Stern’s addition to America’s Got Talent isn’t helping the show out in the ratings. Stern’s debut attracted 10.5 million viewers — making it the least-watched season premiere of the show dating back to 2006. His second Monday on the air drew just 9.5 million. However it should be noted that this year, America’s Got Talent debuted during the regular TV season’s finale week — as opposed to the summer season, when it generally kicks off.
GUILIANA RANCIC STAYS WITH E! Giuliana Rancic will be sticking around E! for a while. The E! News/Fashion Police co-host has inked a three-year deal with the network, which will keep her on her staple shows — as well as the red carpet specials. Rancic will also develop series and special ideas for E!. President Suzanne Kolb said, “Our viewers feel a special connection to Giuliana since in many ways she’s grown up on our air over the past decade.
