OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 44-year-old Omaha woman has been given 60 days in jail for letting her 4-month-old puppy starve to death.

On Tuesday a judge also ordered Monica Andrews not to own another dog for at least five years.

Police say Andrews had left town in December without making provisions for the pit bull puppy’s food or water. The dog, Gotti, was dead when she got home.

Officials say Andrews then called the Nebraska Humane Society to ask it to pick up the dog’s carcass.
