BENNINGTON, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a Bennington woman stabbed four times while protecting her young children from a stranger is expected to recover.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office says Amy Phillips was walking her sons, ages 3 and 4, near their home when a man approached her and demanded a ride. Police say when she refused, the man pulled a pocket knife, held it to the neck of one of Phillips’ boys and threatened to kill him if she did not give him a ride. Phillips maneuvered between the man and her son and was stabbed four times in the back.
Chief Deputy Marty Bilek (BEE-lek) says Phillips was hospitalized, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The man faces assault and weapons counts and is being held in the Douglas County jail.
