Lincoln man pleads no contest accused of shooting brother in law

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A 26-year-old man Lincoln man accused of shooting his estranged wife’s brother has pleaded no contest to reduced charges.

Local Media reports that Mamo Khalaf had been charged with attempted murder. On Tuesday he pleaded no contest to assault, a weapons charge and a threats charge.

Police say Khalaf shot his brother-in-law early in the morning on July 24 last year. Prosecutors say Khalaf was free on bond at the time, accused of threatening to kill his wife’s uncle.

Khalaf’s sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 17.
