NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — A North Platte man has been convicted of two counts in connection with a drug-related death.
Local media reports that Jeffery Manary was convicted Monday in Lincoln County District Court of attempted distribution of methamphetamine and illegal distribution of OxyContin, a powerful prescription painkiller. In exchange for Manary’s plea to those counts, prosecutors dropped charges of manslaughter and a more serious drug count for the Aug. 3 overdose death of Esther Smith.
Manary’s co-defendant and Smith’s sister, Elizabeth Crawford, pleaded guilty in March to two misdemeanor counts in Smith’s death. Crawford was sentenced to 18 months’ probation earlier this month.
Manary is set to be sentenced in July.
