Five area high schoolers qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo with their performance in the State Finals Rodeo in Hastings this past weekend. North Platte resident Brandy Brown, who attends Maywood High School, won the state final in barrel racing. She and Hershey resident Shawnie Stone-Swedberg qualified for nationals in that event. Thedford’s Chauncy Hesseltine won the saddle bronc event at the state final and will compete at nationals in that event and in bull riding. Wellfleet’s Jaden Clark also qualified for nationals in saddle bronc. Hershey’s Tucker White, along with partner Rhett Nelson, secured a spot in nationals in team roping.
