Rockies Run Selves Out of Rally in Loss (LISTEN LIVE TONIGHT on ESPN Radio 1410)

A ninth-inning rally was thwarted by boneheaded baserunning as the Colorado Rockies fell to the Texas Rangers 4-2 in Arlington last night. Down 4-0 entering the ninth, the Rockies loaded the bases with nobody out. Marco Scutaro singled in a run and Carlos Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly made it a 4-2 game. But Scutaro was erased from the basepaths on a bizarre pickoff play and rundown. Scutaro had been ruled safe at second on the rundown, but he failed to stay on the base, allowing himself to be tagged out. Jason Giambi struck out to end the threat and the game. The Rockies have lost 14 of their last 17 ballgames. They finished interleague play with an appaling 2-13 record. The Rockies return home tonight to begin a four-game series with the Washington Nationals. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action tonight, with pregame coverage at 7:05 and the first pitch at 7:40.
