NEW YORK (AP)- Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH’) led off the eighth inning with his 16th home run and the New York Yankees captured two of three in their Subway Series by beating the Mets 6-5 Sunday night. The Yanks ended knuckleballer R.A. Dickey’s string of 44-and-two-thirds innings without an earned run by scoring four times in the third inning with Nick Swisher’s three-run homer the big hit.
BOSTON (AP) – Kevin Youkilis (YOOK’-ih-lihs) said farewell at Fenway Park on Sunday after hitting a triple in Boston’s 9-4 win over the Atlanta Braves helped by Cody Ross, who hit two homers and drove in five runs. Youkilis was traded to the Chicago White Sox for utilityman Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart after the game and received a warm ovation and a curtain call in his final game for the Red Sox.
NEW YORK (AP) – Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire has apologized to a fan for using a gay slur in response to a crude tweet in which the fan admonished the All-Star to “make up for this past season.”

BFerrelli, identified by the Daily News as Brian Ferrelli, posted a screen shot of the direct message. Direct messages can only be seen by the sender and the recipient.
Stoudemire apologized early Sunday, using another direct message that BFerrelli posted as a screen shot, saying “I apologize for what I said earlier. I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No Excuses. Won’t happen again.”
