The Disney Pixar animated movie Brave, about a feisty Scottish princess defying tradition that would have her marrying against her will, opened in first place at the weekend box office, taking in $66.7 million. Lending their voices are Kelly McDonald, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Billy Connollyand Julie Walters. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, fell to second place after two weekends at Number One.
Debuting at Number 3 was the action film and historical mash-up, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, in which the 16th American president — played by the relatively unknown Benjamin Walker — carries out a personal campaign against vampires. Co-starring are Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rufus Sewell.
- Opening in 10th place was the comedy-drama Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, starringSteve Carell and Keira Knightley as neighbors on a road trip as a killer asteroid hurtles toward Earth. Co-starring are Connie Britton, Adam Brody and Rob Corddry.
