Tuesday Sports Wrap – College Football Playoff is Official

WASHINGTON (AP) – College football fans are about to get what they have been asking for, a true playoff system. A plan was approved yesterday that will have a four-team playoff starting in the 2014 season with two semifinal games, followed by a championship game. The semifinals would be on Dec. 31 and/or Jan.1 with the first championship game slated for Jan. 12, 2015.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) – Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH’-vah) and Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich), the top-seeds at Wimbledon, are back in action today. The two third-seeds will be on court as well, Roger Federer for the men and Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH’-kuh rahd-VAHN’-skuh) for the women.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – NASCAR points leader Matt Kenseth is leaving Roush (rowsh) Fenway Racing at the end of the season. There was widespread speculation last weekend at Sonoma that Kenseth was leaving to join Joe Gibbs Racing, but Kenseth decline to discuss his future with the organization he has been with for all but one of his 452 career starts. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be promoted to his seat in the Sprint Cup Series by Roush.
