Broncos Sign Two More Draft Picks

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with their two fourth round picks from April’s NFL Draft. Cornerback Omar Bolden, who was picked with the 101st overall selection from Arizona State, signed a four-year contract worth $2.574 million. Offensive lineman Philip Blake, who was selected seven picks later out of Baylor, signed a four-year, $2.553 million deal. These agreements leave only second-round pick Brock Osweiler and third-round pick Ronnie Hillman as Denver’s unsigned draft picks. Kicker Matt Prater is the only current Bronco who has yet to report to the team’s OTAs as the two parties work out a deal for the franchise-tagged player. Defensive tackle Ty Warren reported yesterday after he and the team agreed to restructure the final year on his contract, with Warren agreeing to take a pay cut in exchange for an enhanced bonus.

Hitchler, Miller Win Big Ten Medals of Honor

Miller is a senior captain distance runner from Tipton, Iowa, and a two-time All-American and four-time conference champion. She has captured three Big Ten titles in her senior season, making her a four-time conference champion. Hitchler is a two-time captain and senior thrower for the Nebraska track and field team from Fremont, Neb. Hitchler is a three-time All-American and has ranked in the top 10 nationally in the discus during his senior season, most recently finishing sixth in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Federal Court Trial Date Set

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — A federal court trial date has been set for the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors chairman and his wife.

Richard and Janna Pierce are charged with bankruptcy fraud, accused of hiding money that they could have used to pay creditors listed in their bankruptcy. They have pleaded not guilty.

The Kearney Hub says (https://bit.ly/KexdmK) the trial is scheduled to begin July 17 in Lincoln.

The Pierces filed for bankruptcy in June 2003 and are accused of failing to disclose nearly $159,000 of Janna Pierce’s income.

The money was from commissions on grants that she wrote in 2004 for Buffalo and neighboring counties. She didn’t submit a bill to the county until 2010, which the board — including her husband — voted to pay.

TD Ameritrade reports monthly trading, asset data

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Online brokerage TD Ameritrade says the number of stock trades it handled in May declined slightly but the amount of client assets it held grew over last year.

The Omaha-based Ameritrade said Thursday it handled an average of 370,000 client trades per day last month. That’s down 2 percent from last May, but up 1 percent from April 2012.

Ameritrade generates revenue from fees it charges on the transactions it handles and from fees on client assets in certain accounts. The company’s monthly data also offers clues about overall investor sentiment.

Ameritrade says the amount of client assets it held grew 3 percent from last year to $431.7 billion at the end of May. But that figure was 4 percent lower than the April 2012 total.

Sometimes chocolate covered almonds…are not almonds.

You might be wondering as to why this moose had a giant super sized grin on it’s face. Surely you’ve heard the jokes adults make about animal dropping you find in the woods are in-fact candy. From it’s a tootsie roll left behind by a wolf, M&M’s from a deer or in this case chocolate covered almonds from a moose…

This is a lesson learned for two young students  taken on a field trip to the Canadian wilderness. Two Manitoba teenagers were tricked by a chaperon who happens to be the schools principle.

The parents of the teenagers are absolutely furious at the prank. One mother says her son was offered “almonds”  by a chaperon, then once the poor soul put the “almond” in his mouth, a classmate immediately took the honor of bursting out to exclaim that the droplet of pure deliciousness thought to be a sweet sustaining treat happens to be poo left from a local moose.

The same thing happen to a girl on the same trip, only worse she has the moose almond stuck in her braces.

"Would you care for a chocolate covered almond? They're fresh!"

The moral of this story is never accept food that is not yours when you’re in a place where food is not common. The children will have to live with this forever, and one day this may make for a really REALLY great story to tell at parties. Parties that have chocolate  covered almonds that is…

Drunk Volunteer Firefighter Crashes Firetruck into Ditch

CERESCO, Neb. (AP) — A drunken-driving charge has been filed against a volunteer firefighter who was behind the wheel when his firetruck crashed into a ditch in eastern Nebraska.

A news release from the office of Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingelhoff says 52-year-old Rodney Lovell, of Ceresco, is charged with a misdemeanor for first-offense DUI.

The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office says the truck was responding to a fire in Valparaiso when the accident occurred in the early morning of May 28. Lovell missed a turn, and the truck ran off the roadway into a ditch. It had to be towed out.

No injuries have been reported.

A phone listed for Lovell is no longer in service. Online court records don’t list the name of Lovell’s attorney.
