(Today’s WTH)Thief Steals Flag From Man In Chicken Suit..

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — Manchester, Conn., police are investigating the theft of an American flag from a man in a chicken suit.

Media outlets in Connecticut report that Eric Didio was waving the flag and dancing outside a newly renovated Boston Market restaurant Wednesday as part of his job, when a man jumped from a car, grabbed the flag and took off.

A customer who witnessed the theft called police.

The newspaper reports that the dispatcher had a hard time relaying the call to officers, breaking into laughter while trying to say “chicken suit.”

Nathan Atwood, the restaurant’s general manager, says he stood beside the 23-year-old Didio for the rest of his shift to provide security.

No arrests have been made.

Nebraska Students Selected to be Jr. Cadets

(Grand Island, Neb.)- Thirty-six young women and 41 young men will experience what it takes to become law enforcement officers as they participate in the American Legion Junior Law Cadet program. The cadets will spend a week in June at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center/Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy (NLETC/NSPTA), 3600 Academy Road in Grand Island.

In its 45th year, the week-long academy follows a strict itinerary providing the cadets with firsthand knowledge of what is required to become a law enforcement officer in Nebraska. The participants begin each day at 6:15 a.m., with calisthenics, followed by a flag raising ceremony.

The young women cadets will attend the Jr. Law Academy the week of June 11-15, while the male cadets will participate the following week, June 18-22. During their stay the cadets will get hands-on experiences to include defensive tactics, vehicle operations and patrolling, firearms, and methamphetamine awareness.

American Legion Posts across the state nominated the cadets, who were then selected by district. Dish customers in North Platte, Unable to receive KNOP/KIIT

North Platte, Neb. – June 6, 2012 – An unresolved issue have blocked DISH customers from accessing their programming in North Platte, demanding DISH accept a massive price increase.

Amid retransmission negotiations, Hoak blocked DISH’s ability to transmit KNOP / KIIT’s content. Hoak is insisting on a rate increase of more than 200 percent and has demanded that DISH eliminate its customer-enabled commercial skipping technology found on its Hopper™ Whole-Home DVRs.

“Dish pulled our signals (KNOP/KIIT) last night at 5pm. This has nothing to do with the Hopper that Dish offers. This is strictly a retransmission consent issue where Dish and Hoak Media, (KNOP/KIIT) are unable, at this point, to come to an agreement. Hoak Media offered an extension that Dish did not take, thus pulling our signals from their satellite systems. Our hope is that this issue can be resolved quickly so KNOP/KIIT can deliver the best in local programming.”  says President and General Manager of KNOP/KIIT-TV Lewys Carlini

DISH no longer has the legal right to carry KNOP / KIIT.

“Our customers pay a lot of money to KNOP / KIIT and Hoak as part of their monthly bills,” said Shull. “We believe customers have the right to watch purchased TV content in any manner they prefer. Why Hoak executives feel they can stop viewers from something they’ve been doing for years is a mystery.”
