Husker senior running back Rex Burkhead was named to the pre-season watch list for the Maxwell Award yesterday. The Maxwell Award has been presented to the nation’s outstanding football player since 1937. Burkhead is one of 65 players to make the watch list. Last season, Burkhead carried the load for the Nebraska offense, rushing for 1,357 yards and scoring 17 total touchdowns. The Maxwell Award semifinalists are announced October 29.
