Philadelphia’s All-Star southpaw outdueled the Colorado Rockies’ rookie lefty in a 5-1 victory for the Phillies at Coors Field yesterday. Cole Hamels worked eight innings, allowing the Rockies just one run on six hits while striking out seven. His mound counterpart, Colorado’s Drew Pomeranz, departed after five innings having allowed five runs on five hits while striking out five. The big blow off Pomeranz was a three-run homer by Hunter Pence in the fifth inning that blew the game open for the Phillies. Carlos Gonzalez drove in the Rockies only run with an RBI triple in the sixth. It was CarGo’s team leading 60th run batted in of the season. The Rockies begin a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Coors Field. ESPN Radio 1410 has the call, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:05 and the first pitch at 7:40.
