HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says a 2-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a car while running across a street.

Authorities say the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, 18-year-old Dusty Consbruck was driving east in Hastings, and did not see the toddler run across the street.

The state patrol says Consbruck’s 2001 Buick LeSabre hit the child, and dragged the boy a short distance. Emergency crews took the boy to Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say they have notified the toddler’s family, but the state patrol has not yet identified the boy. Officials say no charges have been filed.
