Norma L. Marshall, 86, of Elm Creek died July 17, 2012, at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
She was born May 1, 1926, in Elm Creek to Harold L. and Mary E. (Strickler) Mapes. She grew up in Elm Creek and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1944. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
On Oct. 1, 1946, she married Richard T. “Dick” Marshall in Elm Creek. The couple farmed south of Elm Creek for 50 years. They moved to Elm Creek in 1970.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elm Creek, the United Methodist Women, Garden Club and attended Coffee Club for 55 years.
Survivors include a son, Richard H (Lee) Marshall, of Elm Creek; a daughter, Mary (Lynn) Swartwood, of Hershey; granddaughters, Monica (Gregg) Fear, of Hershey, and great grandchildren, Tyrel and Cody, Ann (Neil) Hinrichsen, of Elm Creek, and great-grandchildren, Emilee and Lane, Amy (Mark Gillming), of Goodland, Kan., and great-grandchildren, Dillon and Nathan, Pat (Ryan) Hellriegel, of Elm Creek, and great-grandchildren, Ava and Ashlyn and Sara Marshall of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandsons, Dustin (Cindy) Swartwood, of Avondale, Ariz., and great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Kellee, Jake and Draven, Richard “Pete” (Alyssa) Marshall, of Minden, and great-grandchild, Katherine, Heath (Patricia) Getty, of Elm Creek, and great-grandchildren, Steven, Darin, Elizabeth, Havyn, Chloe and Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; daughter and son-in-law; Nancy and Dan Getty, grandson; Jarrod Getty and daughter-in-law; Rhonda Marshall.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, at the United Methodist Church in Elm Creek. The Rev. Steve Smith will officiate and burial will be at Williamsburg Cemetery south of Elm Creek. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, July 22, from at the United Methodist Church in Elm Creek or prior to services on Monday.
