The US men’s gymnastics team faltered in the team competition last night on their way to a disappointing fifth-place finish. Such an outcome would be even more unthinkable for the US women’s team today in their team competition. The ‘Fab Five’ are the overwhelming favorites to take home the gold, but they’ll need a rebound performance from Jordyn Wieber. Considered the team’s most outstanding performer entering the Games, Wieber stunningly failed to qualify for the all-around competition on Sunday. She’ll have to dig deep physically and emotionally for her team to leave England with a gold medal. You’ll see the competition in prime time tonight, along with four more finals in the pool: the men’s 200 meter fly and 4×200 meter relay, and the women’s 200 meter free and 200 IM. Seventeen-year old Missy Franklin aims for her second gold in as many days in the 200 free final. Michael Phelps aims to swim in both men’s finals as well. Two more medals would make him the most decorated Olympian ever.
