Wednesday Sports Day – NFL Referee Lockout Continues, Bomb Threat at Tigers Game

NEW YORK (AP) – The NFL’s on-field officials say the league planned to lock them out rather than negotiate a new contract.

Members of the NFL Referees Association were locked out June 3 after talks broke down. The league has been contacting replacement officials.

Scott Green, the NFLRA president, and past president Ed Hochuli, both current referees, say the NFL is jeopardizing the safety of the players, as well as the integrity of the game, by considering using officials they feel are unqualified.

The officials say their wage offer was for a smaller increase than they received in the collective bargaining agreement that expired in May. They also cite as issues higher wages for officials in the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball, and the loss of a pension system.

BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Celtics have signed free agent guard Jason Terry.

The deal was reported earlier this month during a signing moratorium, then held up while the Celtics tried to work out a sign-and-trade agreement with the Dallas Mavericks.

Instead, Boston will use its mid-level exemption to sign the 2009 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 15.1 points per game for the Mavericks last year. He was second in the league with 138 made 3-pointers last season and is fourth in NBA history on the career list with 1,788.

Terry is seen as a replacement for Ray Allen, who signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat.

DETROIT (AP) – Baseball stadium Comerica Park is the latest Detroit landmark to be the subject of a bomb threat.

Police say an anonymous caller issued the threat in a 911 call around 8 p.m. Tuesday as the Tigers were hosting the Los Angeles Angels in front of 34,000 fans.

No announcement was made, nor was there a call for an evacuation as police searched the ballpark for an explosive device.

Detroit police Sgt. Eren Stephens says no device was found.

The threat followed two similar incidents in less than a week that shut down a tunnel and a bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, for hours.

Former prison guard admits to his sexual relations with parolee

YORK, Neb. (AP) — A former Nebraska prison guard finally admitted in court what he announced in a newspaper: he had sex and later a daughter with a parolee.

33-year-old Michael Huston pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor as part of a deal with prosecutors who dropped the more serious felony charge of sexual abuse of a parolee.

Huston initially denied having sex with the parolee, but admitted it after publishing a birth announcement in April.

State law bars corrections officers from having sex with parolees, because the parolees remain under the control of the prison system until they have completed parole.

Huston worked as a guard from 2006 until his arrest in 2011. He was ordered to pay a $250 fine and court costs.

Another zombie attack in Florida, bites into man’s stomach…permanently disfigured

By Kris Allen

FLORIDA (NORTH PLATTE POST)- Suddenly reports, stories and absolutely bizarre sightings of the “zombie apocalypse” have been sparking interest on a global scale, and news to you it’s not over yet!

The latest zombie action happened just days ago in Florida. Early Saturday morning the Florida family was greeted by 22 year old Jeremiah Haughee absolutely stark naked on the roof of their home after first destroying their patio furniture.

Police responded to the call at 4:30 AM, upon arrival two men that live at the home were restraining the hell-raising man who was also covered in urine. The two men, father and son of the home while attempting to subdue the man, he ran into their home, urinated on the floor then his inner zombie came out, he took a bite out of  one of the man’s stomach.

The madness doesn’t stop there. It took five police officers to restrain Haughee.  The naked mad man put up quite a fight despite the fact that he was hand cuffed, fell off the roof and tasered multiple times. Haughee took another tasty bite out of an officers leg, then got a hood wrapped over his head, then his legs shackeled, then officers knocked him out with tranquilizer.

The stomach bite one of the house residents received will leave him permanently disfigured.
Somewhere along the line McGruf the crime stopping dog’s phrase “Take a Bite Out of Crime” got taken a bit too literal, and wrong.
Haughee was released later on $32,000 bail and is charged with five counts of battery…three of those against a police officer.

Seems like all zombie-like stories share these qualities:

  1. Super-human like strength and endurance.
  2. Nudity.
  3. Flesh eating.
  4. Drugs.

In this case it is yet to be released whether or not Haughee was on the popular Bath Salt drug.

In all honesty who wants to fight a naked man? Drugs are not the answer!

Tuesday Sports Wrap – Linsanity Goes to Houston, RG3 Signs First Pro Contract

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – The Washington Redskins have come to terms on a contract with Robert Griffin III. The quarterback out of Baylor was the second overall pick in this year’s draft. He signed a four-year contract with Washington worth about $21 million. His agent tells The Associated Press that the Heisman Trophy winner will be in Redskins rookie camp today.

HOUSTON (AP) – Jeremy Lin is leaving New York and taking Linsanity to Houston. The New York Knicks confirmed Tuesday night that they will not match the Houston Rocket’s three-year, $25 million offer for Lin, a restricted free-agent.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State says it will respond within days to the NCAA’s demand for information as the governing body decides whether the university should face penalties after the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Penn State President Rodney Erickson says he doesn’t want to “jump to conclusions” about possible sanctions after the head of the NCAA declared no penalty was off the table, including a shutdown of the university’s football program.

NEW YORK (AP) – Labor talks are set to resume today between the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association. The biggest sticking point in the working out of a new deal is the league’s total revenue and how much each side will get. In short, the players like their share right now. The owners don’t.
