A stinky issue farmers are facing…

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska farmers are being warned about the relatively high numbers of stink bugs in fields of corn and soybeans.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln entomologist Bob Wright says the plants are sensitive to stink bug injury during their reproductive stages, so farmers should be watching for the bugs.

Stink bugs feed on plants and other insects by piercing and injecting the plant or insect with digestive enzymes, then removing fluids from the plant or insect.

More information about scouting for stink bugs, including treatment information, is available online at cropwatch.unl.edu.

once Degrassi actor now rap singer Drake used it in a song quoted here…

“Now she want a photo, you already know, though You only live once: that’s the motto , ####, YOLO”

YOLO has been used in memes all over like the one you see below. But no other man on this planet can utilize the phrase YOLO meaning “ You Only Live Once”  like the 90 year old man who made his first jump out of a plane to parachute!

Lester Slate of Maine already knew how to do this, because he was enrolled into the Navy as a pilot during World War II but not until his 90th birthday. Beats blowing out 90 candles that’s for sure, he got all the air he needed to do just that.

The tandem jump was his own little way of saying happy birthday to himself, assuming he recently stumbled upon a YOLO situation Slate sure does have a knack for reclaiming his youth. More than 50 family members watched him soar back down to earth.

The 90 year old earth walker had such a great time he said he wants to do it again in five or ten years!

This is a modification of a popular poster you see in Chemistry Classes encouraging Safety Goggle use. This may be more effective at reaching youth now days

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) – Kasey Kahne (KAYNE) has won his second Sprint Cup race of the season by holding off Denny Hamlin at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Kahne took the lead from Hamlin during a restart on the 240th lap of the 300-lap race at the one-mile oval Sunday. He was helped by miscommunication between Hamlin, who wanted two tires changed, and crew chief Darian Grubb, who thought he wanted four.

That longer pit stop left Hamlin in 13th place, but he kept passing cars until only Kahne remained in front. But Kahne stayed ahead and won by about 10 car lengths.

It was Kahne’s 14th win of his career and first since May 27 at Charlotte. Clint Bowyer (BOY’-ur), Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) – Team owner Roger Penske says driver AJ Allmendinger will be back for the next Sprint Cup race if he is reinstated by NASCAR.

Justin Bieber is being sued for $9.23 million because a concertgoer says that she suffered permanent hearing loss after attending a 2010 concert at Oregon’s Rose Quarter Arena. According to RadarOnline, the woman claims she suffered both ringing of the ears and over-sensitivity to certain sound frequences when Justin was suspended over the audience and prompted different sections to cheer.

The court documents say, “Experienced promoters, sound engineers, managers and artists are responsible to maintain safe decibels at all times during their events. Due to their negligence, and my subsequent inability, to protect myself, my quality of life has been permanently reduced in addition to the injury.”

Friends and family gather to remember former Gov Tiemann for interesting reasons

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska Gov. Norbert “Nobby” Tiemann was remembered Saturday for his humor, lack of inhibition and willingness to make politically unpopular decisions.

SOURCE: (hastingstribune.com)

Dozens of family members, friends and political allies gathered at a Lincoln church to memorialize Tiemann’s life. Tiemann died last month in his Dallas home, after battling heart problems. He was 87.

Friends recalled how the one-term governor once got in trouble with constituents when he quipped that he had never met a happy farmer.

They also recalled his policy achievements during his one term in office, from 1967 to 1971. Nebraska approved a minimum wage during his tenure, state aid for schools, and collective bargaining for public employees. The University of Nebraska at Omaha was also created under his watch.
