Maurices gets face-lift

North Platte Neb.(Platte River Mall)- Maurices at the Platte River Mall has temporarily re-located next to Bath & Body in the South hallway while its current location gets a new face-lift. Included in initial plans for the Maurices new look is to create one gate opening versus the two the store has maintained allowing for more displays, square off the space as there are diagonal corners and bump outs that currently exist, implement one large bank of fitting rooms versus the numerous pods, relocate the register station, and add some cosmetic pieces that tie in to the look as seen in newer Maurices across the country.

Property Manager of Platte River Mall, Clarine Eickhoff, stated “seeing another store reinvest in the Platte River Mall so soon after seeing the Buckle accomplish their expansion and renovation last Fall, validates that things are progressing within the mall.”

Maurices is expected to be back in their original location by mid-August.

University of Nebraska suing Nevada tortilla maker over infringement

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A company affiliated with the University of Nebraska says a Nevada tortilla maker is infringing on a patent two university researchers received in 2002.

NUtech Ventures is suing Gruma Corp., which owns Mission Foods and Azteca Milling, over patent infringement.

NUtech, which is a nonprofit that works to commercialize the university’s research, says Gruma filed several patent applications between October 2004 and June 2007 that show it is violating NU’s patent.

At the heart of the dispute is a process to produce flour from grains such as corn that’s more efficient. The process uses a solution containing a protease enzyme.

Gruma operates 22 U.S. plants that manufacture and distribute packaged corn and wheat tortillas and six plants that manufacture and distribute corn flour.

Tuesday Sports Day – All-Star Game Tonight, Iowa Extends Hoops Boss McCaffery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The crippling heat wave has finally broken, and just in time for the All-Star game.

After several weeks of record-setting temperatures from coast to coast, the forecast is for high temperatures in the 90s on Tuesday in Kansas City, the site of the annual Midsummer Classic.

That’s quite the reprieve for organizers and civic leaders, along with players, coaches and fans, many of whom had been bracing for triple-digit temperatures.

Twins catcher Joe Mauer has played enough games in Kansas City to know how insufferable the weather can be, so he’s been keeping a wary eye on the forecast. “The weathermen knew we were coming,” he said, “so they gave us a break.”

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa coach Fran McCaffery has signed a new seven-year deal to remain with the Hawkeyes.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said Tuesday that McCaffery will be paid at least $1.66 million a year with a base salary of $1.3 million starting next season.

McCaffery could make up to $1.86 million per season if the Hawkeyes reach the NCAA tournament.

McCaffery left Siena to join the Hawkeyes before the 2010 season. His original contract was for six years and started at roughly $1.1 million per year.

Iowa won 18 games and reached the NIT in 2011-12. The Hawkeyes return three starters next season and bring in a freshman class featuring prized recruits Adam Woodbury and Mike Gesell.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – AJ Allmendinger says he would never knowingly take a prohibited drug.

Allmendinger issued a statement Tuesday, his first since he was suspended by NASCAR for failing a random drug test. Allmendinger was informed of his suspension hours before Saturday night’s race at Daytona.

The 30-year-old driver says he has requested his “B” urine sample be tested, and he hopes the situation can be resolved with NASCAR as quickly as possible.

NASCAR does not disclose what substance was found in a failed drug test. Allmendinger and Penske Racing have not revealed details, either.

Allmendinger apologized for the distraction he has caused Penske Racing, his sponsors and fans.

Sam Hornish Jr. will replace Allmendinger in the No. 22 Dodge this weekend at New Hampshire.

NEW YORK (AP) – New York Mets pitcher Dillon Gee has undergone surgery to remove a blood clot from an artery in his throwing shoulder.

The team said Tuesday no timetable has been set for the right-hander’s return, but he will miss his next start and probably will be put on the disabled list.

Gee complained of numb fingers on his right hand Sunday, a day after he pitched. Tests on Monday revealed the shoulder clot.

Doctors used a catheter to break up the clot. The 26-year-old pitcher will remain hospitalized for a day or two to make sure the problem is fully resolved.

Gee pitched eight innings of one-run ball in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Brantley Gilbert has another #1 Hit!!

The Valory Music Co. proudly announces a second consecutive #1 hit with “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” for breakout sensation Brantley Gilbert. The GOLD-certified ballad shows a softer side of Country music’s newest bad boy and continues a winning streak set late last year with his first #1 – the GOLD-certified, fist-pumping “Country Must Be Country Wide.”

With his rough-and-tough exterior and moments of vulnerability when referencing the fairer sex, it’s clear why Gilbert has such mass appeal to a variety of fans. Recently, he was also named “Country Music’s Most Eligible Bachelor” in a Taste Of Country poll – besting Kenny Chesney, Chris Young and Scotty McCreery – nabbing the title with over 30% of the votes.

“Man I can’t believe it; this is just so amazing … what an incredible ride this past year has been! I can’t begin to thank everyone involved enough,” said Gilbert. “Thanks so much to Country radio, my management team, the great folks at Valory and most importantly the BG Nation; we are here because of you.”

Later this month, Gilbert will share the third single from his GOLD-certified album,HALFWAY TO HEAVEN. Proving to be a fan favorite, “Kick It In The Sticks,” has surpassed 11.2 million views on YouTube. The hitmaker is currently playing the tune while on tour with Toby Keith.
