Nebraska will open the football season ranked 17th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. That ranking is one spot lower than the one the Huskers were given in the USA Today Coaches poll. It is the 36th consecutive version of the AP poll the Huskers have appeared in dating back to November 29, 2009. That is the fifth-longest active streak in the nation and the longest among Big Ten schools. The Huskers scrimmaged in Lincoln on Saturday as their season opener draws closer. After the scrimmage, head coach Bo Pelini announced that five walk-on players had earned scholarships: kicker Brett Maher, guards Seung-Hoon Choi and Spencer Long; center Justin Jackson, and defensive back Justin Blatchford. The Huskers could wind up with an interior offensive line comprised entirely of walk-ons. Choi and Long have secured starting spots, and Jackson could beat out Cole Pensick for the center spot.
